The end of 2012 is nearly upon us so it is time to get ready to see in the new year and say goodbye to this one.
It has been a very eventful year for my family and much of it has not been good but we have overcome each bump in the road and are all the stronger for it; hopefully 2013 will be a smoother ride as we walk into the unknown.

My darling friend and I recently met up for a pre-Christmas meet in the delightful city/town of Ely in Cambridgeshire and I was very much looking forward to visiting the recently opened Samovar Tea House as I used to purchase my tea from their stall on Cambridge market.
We went to Peacocks Tearoom for lunch...lovely...toasted brie and blueberry sandwich washed down with the Sherlock Holmes blend...earl grey and lapsang souchong blended together...I had the same last time I visited and would not be suprised if I repeated this on my next visit.
Anyhow, we chose to visit the Samovar Tea House for our afternoon tea which was perfect as we were thoroughly chilled to the bone by this point...they open late so it was lovely to chill out until it was hometime.
I chose the Cathedral blend of tea as it went very well with the piece of chocolate beetroot cake I had picked out from the delicious selection of cakes that are all made on site by the lovely and knowledgeable ladies who run the tea house...they create all the blends themselves hence they can offer you sound advice if you would like any help with the tea menu.
If you are ever in Ely then I would very much suggest you pay a visit as you will be offered a warm welcome into a very relaxed and friendly environment where you will not be pushed to leave or re-order...infact they even refresh your leaves with fresh boiled water for you to make your tea go further which is lovely in this day and age...and they offer a selection of teas to take home with you too.

I was very much hoping that my darling husband would suprise me with this lovely and toasty quilted jacket from Barbour on Christmas day.
Thinking that the Mount Hollys would look very nice with it too; love that brands like Hunter and Barbour are fashionable again as I always wore them during my horse owning days.
Due to having a rather horrible couple of weeks of late - a flooded kitchen and a redundancy scare - I got home one night to find the jacket waiting for me as a cheer-me-up present; how lucky am I?

We love to pop into The White Rabbit in the North Laine area of Brighton for a quick half and a bite to eat...ok...for a couple of pints and a bite to eat...lets keep it real; this quirkily decorated pub has a great chilled out vibe and offers food made with local ingredients at ridiculously reasonable prices; I would thoroughly recommend a visit if you are ever in the area.

As I have mentioned previously, I am attempting to make a number of gifts this year, one of them being lavender bags.
My lavender bags are very homemade/upcycled as I have knitted the outers using scraps of wool that would have otherwise gone to waste, my inners are made of old pairs of tights that also would have gone to waste and the lavender itself has been picked and dried from my own garden.
Just because my lavender bags have been made using odds and ends from here and there, it does not mean that they are any less pretty than something that one may find in a shop, they are environentally friendly and they are much more personal, hence I feel that they are a win, win, win gift to give to my nearest and dearest.
Lavender bags are a great starter make; why not have a go yourself?
